The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai takes pleasure in inviting you to a talk on A “Luminous New Leaf”: Poetry and Modern Life in Bombay by the well-known journalist Supriya Nair, on Tuesday, 3rd January 2023 at 5 p.m. in the Durbar Hall of the Society.

Indian writing in English has a long history but one of its formal and emotional pinnacles was only reached less than a generation after Independence, with the poetry that began to beproduced by writers living and working in India. Rooted in Indian life, open to the world, the ambitious, profound and thoroughly modern work of some poets is an unusual and revealing emotional history about these poets and their time and place. Their words reveal how we ourselves were shaped by our cities, societies and our brand-new nation in an ever-changing world.
Supriya Nair is a senior journalist and editor based in Mumbai. She is co-founder of the digital publication Fifty-Two and the media company All Things Small. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, Vogue and Wisden.

The lecture is an introduction to that history. Please join us for this fascinating presentation of an era that has not often been explored.

Tea will be served at 4.30 pm

- Meenal Kshirsagar, Vice President of the Society & Chairperson - ASM LitClub
- Prof. Mangala Sirdeshpande, Hon. Secretary, Asiatic Society of Mumbai
