Days of Gold and Sepia

The Asiatic Society of Mumbai LitClub
ASM LitClub book discussion

on Tuesday, 6th February, 2018, at 4.30 p.m.
You are cordially invited to a discussion led by the author, Yasmeen Premji, of her book "Days of Gold and Sepia", a novel in the classic tradition. It is the saga of a man who rises from his humble beginnings as a penniless orphan and amasses a large fortune as Bombay's ' Cotton King.' Set against the period between India's war for Independence in 1857 and the fledgling freedom struggle of the early twentieth century, this tale is peopled by an epic cast of characters - merchant princes and maharajas, courtesans and soothsayers, pirates, freedom fighters and soldiers of the British Raj.
Yasmeen Premji is a compelling story-teller, this is a "hauntingly elegiac evocation of old Bombay, written with sensitivity and compassion," to quote Sashi Tharoor.
Do read the book prior to the event so that you can participate in the discussion that will follow the presentation and reading of excerpts.
Do join us for tea at 4.00 pm.
