Release of ASM Journal Volume 91

We are happy to share with you that on 25^th November 2023, on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Asiatic, the Society has released Volume 91 of the ASM Journal. It has come to the Society's notice that some unscrupulous elements are collecting money for publishing papers in the Society's Journal and offering bogus certificates. The Asiatic Society does not collect money for publishing in its journal, nor does it guarantee publication, and neither does it issue any certificate. Authors must verify with the Society before submitting any papers, and papers will be published only after rigorous peer review and editing. The Society does not take responsibility for any payments made to third parties claiming to represent the Society, or for their papers appearing in a cloned/spam journal. Ours is a print-only journal.

“Kundalini Yoga in Narsinh Mehta’s Poems” by Dr. Jawahar Bakshi

The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai takes pleasure in inviting you to a bilingual talk “Kundalini Yoga in Narsinh Mehta’s Poems” by Dr. Jawahar Bakshi on Monday 26th February 2024 at 5 p.m. in the Durbar Hall of the Society.

In the talk, Dr. Bakshi will delve into the Kundalini Yoga aspect in Narsinh Mehta's poems. This involves opening up all eight lotuses in the mystical poem “Jalkamal Chhandi Ja Ne Bala." Rising from the Root Chakra gradually leading to the Crown Chakra and ultimately reaching the Soul star chakra - this yoga path is implicitly narrated in this simple yet celebrated poem.

Dr. Jawahar Bakshi Is a multifaceted personality. A Chartered Accountant by profession, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree for his thesis on “Spirituality in the poetry of Narsinh Mehta." The thesis won him the Narsinh Mehta Award as well as the Bhogilal Sandesara award for his Ph.D. thesis. In addition, he teaches Transcendental Meditation.

The Maharashtra State Gujarati Sahitya Academy has honoured him with the Jeevan Gaurav Award. His work on poetry is recognised by both the Gujarati Parishad and the Gujarati Sahitya Academy. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Narmad Gold Medal and Kalapi Award.

He has been invited across the globe to deliver lectures on Indian Philosophy, Yoga, Meditation and Literature of Saints. Moreover, he is a pioneer in modern romantic mysticism and pure poetry with spiritual experience in Gujarati Gazals.
