The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai is pleased to invite you to join us for a discussion on the “Genre of historical fiction” on Tuesday 12th December 2023 at 5 pm in the Durbar Hall of the Society.
Historical fiction is a curious genre that straddles literature and history. It weaves stories together by infusing varying moments of history with psychological insights that make us contemplate the timelessness of human interactions across different contexts

Our literary club will examine this genre, asking members to bring examples of narratives that have affected them or that have caused a strong positive or negative reaction. We will examine the boundaries of the genre and what makes for good storytelling. We will ask questions such as how important is it to maintain absolute, historical fidelity? How do you gain insights into the psychology of the people who lived in the past? What are the pitfalls and complexities of the genre?
