The Society has instituted the following
Annual Junior Research Scholarships
:

1) Justice K.T. Telang Scholarship in “Indology” of the value of Rs.12, 000/- p.a.
2) INDAL Scholarship in “Social Science” of the value of Rs.12,000/- p.a.
3) Asiatic Society’s two Scholarships in “Social Science” of the value of Rs.25, 000/- p.a. each.
4) Asiatic Society’s Scholarship in “Labour Studies” of the value of Rs.12, 000/- p.a.
5) Gulestan Billimoria Scholarship in the subject relating to the study of Mumbai / Maharashtra of the value of Rs.12,000/- p.a.
6) G.S. Pohekar Memorial Scholarship offered to a student pursuing research in any area concerning Japan – education, culture, politics, economics, Japanese Buddhism, etc. of the value of Rs.8,000/- p.a.
7) Dr. (Smt.) Sheela Raj Memorial Scholarship in “History” of the value of Rs.16, 000/- p.a.
8) Smt. Vimal N. Shah Memorial Research Scholarship in “Pali /Buddhist Studies” of the value of Rs.40, 000/- p.a.
9) Smt. Vimal N. Shah Memorial Research Scholarship in “Media Studies” of the value of Rs.40, 000/- p.a.
10) Chief Justice M.C.Chagla Doctoral Scholarship in “Modern Indian History” of the value of Rs. 40, 000 /- p.a. (Only those who are pursuing Doctoral research in Modern Indian History can apply for this Scholarship)
11 ) Smt. Rajani Dandekar Scholarship in ‘History of Art: Bombay School’ of the value of Rs. 30, 000 /- (to be given every alternate year)

The tenure of the Junior Research Scholarships is for one year (from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021).

Applications are invited from Research scholars with a minimum of Post Graduate Degree/Diploma, for the award of the above - mentioned Scholarships. Those who are not members of the Society may apply. However, if selected for a Scholarship they will have to become members of the Society. Employed persons may also apply for the same.

After six months all the research awardees are required to submit the status of the research work done by them in that period in soft and hard copies. (Approx. 2000 words).

If the applicant is enrolled as an M.Phil/ Doctoral research student, the research proposal should not be part of his/her M.Phil /Doctoral research. This does not apply to the Chief Justice M.C. Chagla Doctoral Scholarship.

At the end of the research period, the scholarship holder should submit the dissertation to the Society in soft and hard copies. The dissertation should be between 10,000 words and 25,000 words in length, and include, apart from the text, an abstract and references. Along with the dissertation, the Scholarship holder should submit a paper based on the dissertation, in case it is considered for publication in the Journal of the Asiatic Society. The Asiatic Society reserves the right of publication of the dissertation.

The dissertation will be sent to a subject expert for evaluation. Where the expert has asked for revision of the dissertation, the research scholar has to rework and submit a revised report within a stipulated time. The final installment will be released to all the scholarship holders only after the Committee’s approval.

Interested scholars are requested to apply to the undersigned, on or before 31st January 2020 in the prescribed form available at the office.

The applications will be screened by a Committee constituted for the purpose. Selected candidates will have to appear for an interview which will be held in the Asiatic Society of Mumbai. It is mandatory for candidates to be present in person for the interview. The decision of the Committee will be final. Contact Mr. Vijay S. Rikame (Time : 12.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.)
