Visit to CIPLA ARCHIVES
Friday, 26th July 2024 at 11.00 a.m.
The Mumbai Research Centre of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai cordially invites you to explore the CIPLA ARCHIVES on Friday, 26th July 2024. This visit is part of our ongoing initiative to delve into the rich history preserved in Mumbai's Archives and Museums.
Private corporations in India are now closely tied to the country's industrial growth. Cipla's Archives, established in 2014, maintains a collection spanning 89 years, containing books, documents, photographs, marketing materials, and oral histories. The archive reveals how Cipla exported essential medicines during World War II and how MK Gandhi's visit to their Mumbai factory in 1939 reinforced the company's commitment to India's self-sufficiency in drug manufacturing. Additionally, the archive also tracks how Cipla and other pharma companies advocated for legislative changes, leading to the amended The Patents Act, 1970.
