The Mumbai Research Centre of The Asiatic Society of Mumbai invites you to a talk “Getting to Know Ardeshir Irani” by Dr. Narendra Panjwani.
The event starts at 5 PM on Friday, 8th November 2024, with tea at 4:30 PM at the Durbar Hall.
Ardeshir Irani created India's first talkie, ALAM ARA, in 1931, choosing Hindustani and thus creating Hindi Cinema. His decision inspired others, leading to a surge in Hindustani talkies. Dr. Narendra Panjwani's talk explores Irani's lasting impact on cinema.
Narendra Panjwani is a Sociologist, Journalist, and Film Historian. His recent book, "Emotion Pictures – Cinematic Journeys into the Indian Self," explores the Indian psyche through cinema. He taught Film & Media Studies at St. Xavier's College from 2006 to 2016.
