Release of ASM Journal Volume 91

We are happy to share with you that on 25th November 2023, on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Asiatic, the Society has released Volume 91 of the ASM Journal. It has come to the Society's notice that some unscrupulous elements are collecting money for publishing papers in the Society's Journal and offering bogus certificates. The Asiatic Society does not collect money for publishing in its journal, nor does it guarantee publication, and neither does it issue any certificate. Authors must verify with the Society before submitting any papers, and papers will be published only after rigorous peer review and editing. The Society does not take responsibility for any payments made to third parties claiming to represent the Society, or for their papers appearing in a cloned/spam journal. Ours is a print-only journal.

The Mumbai Research Centre of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai invites you to The Legacy of H T Parekh: A retrospective and exclusive guided visit to the H T Parekh Legacy Centre on October 5, 2024, at 11 am.

Padma Bhushan H T Parekh was a pathbreaking pioneer who contributed immensely to national and societal needs of fulfilling commercial, industrial and personal finances, as the country grappled with early post-colonial challenges. In his lifetime he created institutions that were behemoths serving as bedrocks of a new economic culture. More during the event...
The event is guided by R Venkatesh who will cover the history of this visionary builder and father of the Indian housing finance industry. A baron of the modern Indian economy, especially banking, finance and stock market-related contributions, with a walk-through of the rich original artefacts in the H T Parekh Legacy Centre. The gallery also encompasses his original office cabin where he reigned for over 5 decades during his lifetime.

H T Parekh Foundation and erstwhile HDFC Limited have done doyen service to historical research by curating this gallery and bringing to life the narrative of a great personality, who hitherto did not have a contemporary autobiography or biography.

R Venkatesh has conducted a series of banking and financial history walks for the MRC over the years, “Urbs Prima in Indis-A microcosm of global banking histories”; this visit is a part of that series. He is an independent researcher presently focused on Mumbai’s history. He holds an M.A. in History (JNU) and a B.A. in History Hons (Delhi University) and is a life member of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai, INTACH and a member of the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society.
