On this walk, let’s explore the stories behind one of the city’s most crowded yet non-touristy areas, and some of the hidden treasures with some interesting historic significance. Experience the urban village life through the lanes of Chembur Gaothan, age old temples and settlements, lush green gardens, and the bustling urban life along the Monorail route.

Sassoon is home to trade of over 100 tonnes of fish every day. Melee of fishermen plying their trade, women and men hustling in order to sell and buy the freshest catch and endless cue of trucks waiting to load up fish for exports, Sassoon dock is a cultural beehive of activity, like none other.
The walk has a heady mix of history and culture, making it suited for varied interests that you might have.
We promise a morning of lesser known history, unique cultural conversations and learn the business challenges faced by the first people of Mumbai.

A walk through the lanes of Mazgaon with Rafique Baghdadi
The Mumbai Research Centre of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai has organised a walk through the lanes of Mazgaon with Rafique Baghdadi, exploring the history and rich cultural heritage on one of Mumbai’s oldest suburbs. The walk will be held on Sunday, 23rd February 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 11.a.m. The attached poster gives the details of the walk.
Rafique Baghdadi is a journalist, writer, researcher and film critic. A storyteller, he is a resident of Mazgaon and has known the place intimately since his childhood.
