Release of ASM Journal Volume 91

We are happy to share with you that on 25th November 2023, on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Asiatic, the Society has released Volume 91 of the ASM Journal. It has come to the Society's notice that some unscrupulous elements are collecting money for publishing papers in the Society's Journal and offering bogus certificates. The Asiatic Society does not collect money for publishing in its journal, nor does it guarantee publication, and neither does it issue any certificate. Authors must verify with the Society before submitting any papers, and papers will be published only after rigorous peer review and editing. The Society does not take responsibility for any payments made to third parties claiming to represent the Society, or for their papers appearing in a cloned/spam journal. Ours is a print-only journal.

‘Exploring Nature and History at Godrej’

Join us for a one-of-a-kind experience bringing nature and history together! This is a nature and history trail at Godrej & Boyce (Vikhroli, Mumbai), where you can discover the amazing biodiversity and heritage of Vikhroli Mangroves and Godrej Archives. This trail is a collaboration between Godrej & Boyce and The Mumbai Research Centre of The Asiatic Society of Mumbai, and it will help you appreciate and respect the natural and industrial heritage of Mumbai and motivate you to care for it.

We will begin with a nature trail through the Vikhroli mangroves and end with a dive into corporate history with a tour of the Godrej Archives.

The Vikhroli mangroves, the second largest green lung of Mumbai, are conserved and scientifically managed by the Godrej Group in Vikhroli. Situated on the Western bank of Thane Creek, it shelters 16+ mangrove and associated plant species, 13 crab species, 7 prawn species, 20 fish species, 76 butterfly species, 206 bird species and a few mammal species. The Mangroves tour includes a 1 hour walk through the Vikhroli mangroves with an expert who will show the participants around the different varieties of mangroves and other flora and fauna.

Started in 2006, Godrej Archives aims at preserving 126 years of Godrej history and unfolding the company’s contribution to the industrial history of India through the 150000 and more records in the collection. These include manuscripts, photographs, audio-visual and printed material, oral histories and memorabilia items. Visitors will be taken through a permanent exhibition titled ‘Back to the Future’ that showcases Godrej history followed by a tour of different facilities at the archives including repositories, in-house Digitisation and Conservation Labs. This will acquaint them with the functions and programmes of an archive and the larger goal of historical preservation thus achieved.
