As you are aware, it is the Society’s 220th Foundation Day on Tuesday, 26th November 2024. We are celebrating this day in the Durbar Hall at 5.00 p.m.
The Chief Guest for the function will be Prof. Bhalchandra Mungekar, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Society. At this function, the Society will be awarding Honorary Fellowships of the Society to 5 distinguished persons (namely, Dr. Amitav Ghosh, Dr. Arvind Jamkhedkar, Dr. Kumud Kanitkar, Dr. Shashi Tharoor and Pandit Arvind Parikh), and also releasing the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai Vol. 92; and publication of Amaligramamahatmya.

The Mumbai Research Centre of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai cordially invites you to a talk titled "Naval Uprising of February 1946: The Last War of Independence?" by CMDE Srikant Kesnur.
In this talk, Cmde (Dr) Srikant Kesnur, VSM (Retd) will delve into the sequence and significance of the Naval Uprising (formerly referred to as the Naval Mutiny) of February 1946. He will examine the involvement of Mumbai's citizens, the key figures in the uprising, and how the Indian Navy has commemorated this event over the years, providing a unique 'healing touch.' Additionally, he will address critical questions about preserving the memories and legacy of the uprising and whether it should be regarded as the Last War of Independence.
