The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of MUmbai takes pleasure in inviting you to a talk by author Jerry Pinto on his latest publication, “The Education of Yuri” on Tuesday 11th April at 5 pm in the Durbar Hall of the Society.

This is a coming-of-age novel or bildungsroman, a tale that is warm, tender and funny. It is a novel on urban adolescence in India, it depicts the trials and tribulations of a precocious 15 year old growing up in Bombay in the early 1980s. You empathise with him as he experiences the intensity, pleasure and meaning of friendship and compassion and you savour the author’s unerring ear for language and dialogue.

This is a novel about a period in time when books and learning mattered, when poetry was recited and discussed. It is an oeuvre that is deeply rooted in Mumbai’s topography, in its social geography and its cultural history, it will be loved for decades by readers across generations.
Come and listen to Jerry Pinto, an author who writes straight from the heart and offers the reader the pleasure of recognition and nostalgia along with moments of pure hilarity.
Tea will be served at 4.30 pm.

on Monday 20th March at 5 pm

The Literary Club of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai is pleased to announce a presentation of a collection of stories titled “On Ills and Crime” by our Member, Shridhar Naik, on Monday 20th March 2023 at 5 pm in the Durbar Hall of the Society.

Each of these stories deals with a pressing issue of the time, like minor boys being sexually exploited, youth fired by unrealistic idealism, misguided youth ending up as terrorists, the elderly abandoned by their children, politicians exploiting tragedies for their own selfish ends, etc.
These topics and many more find expression through the medium of fiction, well portrayed by the author. The stories bring to light the ugly truths that are prevalent in society which many of us choose to ignore.

Shridhar Naik has a Master’s degree in History from Mumbai University. He has had stints with leading publications in the print media as well as with leading P.R. Agencies. Currently, he is a visiting lecturer for Journalism and Media in various colleges in Mumbai.

Please join us in listening to what the author has to say about these problems. Shridhar Naik will be in conversation with Shraddha Kamdar, Deputy Editor, Femina.

We look forward to your participation in this discussion.

Tea will be served at 4.30 pm.
